Harold Hill is a planned community and housing estate in the London Borough of Havering. Harold Hill was originally part of London’s green belt, but due to the exceptional need for housing following the Second World War, over 7,000 homes were built to house 25,000 people. The housing is fairly low-density, comprising mainly terraced housing and some flats. There is a large section of parkland in the centre and many small parks and green spaces surrounding the area.
Harold Hill is part of a long-term regeneration project led by Having Borough Council. The programme includes the regeneration of existing housing estates, building of 3,500 new homes, updated shopping facilities, improved landscaping and a new medical centre.
Harold Hill does not have its own train or tube station, meaning the commuter-led gentrification that has happened in other areas has been slower here. As a result, house prices are slightly lower than the average property prices across similar areas in Greater London.
