By train… 

Barking station is in Zone 4 and provides 15-minute fast trains to Fenchurch Street in the City. The station is also on the District and Hammersmith & City London Underground lines.

The Overground runs from Gospel Oak to Barking, and this line is due to be extended to Barking Riverside, expected to be completed by autumn 2022.

By bus… 

Several buses connect Barking Riverside to Barking town centre and the station. Many London bus routes serve the borough including a night bus which travels into Central London.

By road… 

Barking is on the A406 North Circular Road and close to the A13, leading to the M25 London Orbital motorway.

Barking has excellent options for shopping, and great connections to the rest of London if you’re looking to travel further afield. It hosts a busy and thriving market in the town centre every day except Wednesday and Sunday, which includes up to 80 different stalls. Equally, there’s the extensive Vicarage Field Shopping Centre which is packed full of independent shops and popular chains – covering all bases, from clothing, to food, to perfume shops.

Additionally, the wider town centre includes a variety of high street staples alongside an extensive range of small independent shops and cafes. There are Tesco and Asda superstores, as well as an Iceland and Lidl. Overall Barking offers residents diverse shopping: from large supermarkets to independent retailers and unique specialty stores.

Barking Abbey Green in the town centre was the site of Barking Abbey, originally built in the 7th century. The abbey’s ruined remains, the Grade II listed Curfew Tower and the Grade I listed St Margaret’s Church are all located within the park. Barking Park to the east of Barking town centre has a mile-long boating lake, heritage trail, miniature railway, children’s playground and tennis courts.

It is easy to keep active in Barking with two leisure centres. The Abbey Leisure Centre has two swimming pools, a gym and fitness studios alongside a spa and kids soft play. Barking Sport House and Gym has a large gym over three floors and fitness and group cycle studios.
